Dirt Off Your Shoulder Astros Race For The Pennant 5K Race Report

It was a hot morning. It was in the 80's at 7:45AM. They really need to start these races in the summer earlier. It really isn't summer yet but it feels like it. After, I got my chip I was doing a warm up jog. I jogged past this chick, who I am guessing was walking since she made this comment as I jogged past her. "I hate runners!" Whoa, was she talking about me?!? If so, THANKS! Little did she know calling me a runner was flattery in the highest form to me, well second to calling me a triathlete. hehehe! I asked Shane to run it with me at the last minute to help pace me to a PR. Oh man, I was getting queasy after the first hill at about mile 2. Shane kept saying, "come on, Viv you can do it!" I think that is when I gave him quite a cussing, and told him to run on. He didn't but we ran the rest bumping elbows. Once, we finished:

Me: I think I beat my last 5K time.

Shane: (silence)

Me: Are we not speaking?

Shane: After all those things you said to me. I may never run with you again.
Me: Hey, that's the field out there. We leave that shit on the field.

I ran up the stadium stairs ahead of Shane, and grabbed him my best attempt of an apologetic beer. And we're good again, think of us as The Honeymooners. Anyhow, totally missed my Nitmos Theory time of 33:25 and got 35:14(11:20), which makes it my new PR by 43 seconds. I will be adding some speedwork as part of my regularly scheduled program, in effort to make this so called Nitmos hypothesis an official theory.

Sorry, I am a little behind catching up with you guys. This challenge has my BlackBerry blowing up. It's cool though, I look all important with my phone constantly zipping up emails. That or I am really annoying to those around me.

Great job on the PR in the heat, and I hear ya on starting those races earlier. I know that it's only a 5K, but I'm with you on this: let's get it done and over with before the sun rises and begins to fry our flesh!

I arrived at Memorial Park around 700a and it was in the low 70s. About 30 minutes into my run I could tell it was heating up and thought all of y'all running on the asphalt and all. OY!

I wish I had a beer waiting for me when I finished my run. :-)

I hate to nitpick - and I really should have pointed this out in your goals post - but my Theory states you multiply your goal by .975 (or 2.5%) NOT a reduction factor of 10% (or .1). If I convert your goal time (35:57 or better) to seconds and calculate by .975 and then convert that back to seconds, I get 35:03 as your expected finish. Awfully close to to your 35:14 finish time. I feel this is vindication on the Theory! I expect a full retraction on your critique of this ground breaking theory in your next post. ;)

That aside, CONGRATULATIONS on a terrific race and a new PR!!

By the way, the dressing down you needed to give Shane probably cost you the other 11 seconds. Cussing out friends/family is not a variable taken into account in the formula.

I thought you said "Lets take a shit in the field".

LMAO

Great job on the PR!!

One of my friends in the UK was all on about how "crazy Americans start races so early." Judging by his comment one would think he didn't realize there are continents that don't maintain a 60 degree temp and overcast skies all year round ;-).

I'm in stupid Michigan and was hit with teps near 80 by the end of the half I did yesterday - What I thought was skin peeling from sunburn turned out to be salt stains on my forehead :-).

Congrats on the PR!!!

Best contest director ever. I envy your organization skillz. My blackberry would have flown out the window by now ;-).

Dude, I didn't read blogs over the weekend and I missed out! I started WW again today, so I definitely need some incentive to get my butt in gear!!

Great job on the PR, heat and all!

Awesome job on that 5K Viv! You crack me up with hubby not wanting to run with you again. That sounds a lot like "if" David and I ran together... hehe
