2-Cyclist are respected. Most of the major street have their own bike line and parking on shoulders are restricted for their safety.
3-Tons of surfers.
4-A lot of the "beautiful people".
5- There is a radio station dedicated to fitness/health talk.
6-As warm as it may be during the day it will be chilly at night.
7-Most drinks at the bar lack liquor. Stick to wine...
8-Everything is way more expensive.
9-The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf rocks my world.
10-Not uncommon to have a reality TV star serve your drinks.

California also leads the nation in accidents involving cyclists. See, I have a bright side to everything :-)
I remember The Bride and I biking in Marin County 3 years ago...incredibly helpful people to bikers... they probably spotted us as a couple folks from out of state...haha

I don't think you got a balanced view of Cali. Where you were, cyclist are mostly respected. I've ridden down PCH and Santiago Canyon and thought I was going to die. But that could have been me being petrified at cars going 70 next to me.
I made many, many trips to HB when I was growing up. It was just close enough that we could drive over for 2-3 days. I heart that whole area!!
